The gazebo on the green in Fowler Center
Fowler Township consists of 25 square miles being the 5th township of the 2nd range of the original survey. It is part of the so called "Western Reserve" that the Connecticut Land Company purchased from the state of Connecticut. Samuel Fowler, the original owner of the township paid the Connecticut Land Company $12,903.23 for the 16,551 acres that comprise Fowler Township. This is just shy of 78 cents per acre. His brother, Abner Fowler, a widower and a veteran of the American Revolution, from the state of Massachusetts, was also an early surveyor of the area. In recognition of his services he was given 100 acres of land near the center of the township. He built a log cabin in the spring of 1799 just northeast of where the square in Fowler now is, becoming Fowler's first citizen.
